This study analyzes the demographics of Catholic female saints to complement knowledge of European women in the Middle Ages and the early modern period, leveraging the rich hagiographical sources available. The work is divided into three chapters: 1. Construction of an extensive database, collecting biographical and demographic data on over two thousand female saints, using hybrid methodologies (manual collection and artificial intelligence); 2. General demographic analyses of variables such as data quality, temporal and geographic distribution, social class, fertility, age of vows, and causes of death, to identify trends and peculiarities of this selected population; 3. In-depth analysis of married female saints, with a specific focus on age at marriage, to explore the marital, family, and religious dynamics of this significant minority. The aim is to offer insights into the understanding of European demographic phenomena during the Middle Ages, which remain unexplained due to a lack of sources and data.
