Music has always been considered an art form and a means of communication capable of conveying emotions. We can also say that music is part of our lives in a daily way: from the radio to parties to simply company while we take the bus. Even in sports music accompanies us during our training, but is it just company? The following thesis aims to understand the effects of music on human physical abilities. The analysis began with a description of the brain mechanisms that allow us to understand music. The literature on the influence of music on the psychological and physiological aspects of the human body was then analyzed, and finally, the literature on the influence of music on different types of physical activity, distinguished by energetic mechanisms, was analyzed. This research shows how music can be a useful tool in sports: the results highlight an improvement in aspects related to motivation and in long-duration activities where the aerobic or anaerobic lactic system plays a fundamental role. Conversely, for short-duration activities using the anaerobic alactic system, music has not proven to be as effective.
