Singularities of plane algebraic curves contain fundamental information about the local structure of curves. The aim of this paper is to present the geometric tools underlying their analysis and subsequent desingularization. After introducing the blowing-up construction of a point on a smooth surface, the main properties of the exceptional divisor, the strict transform of curves, and infinitely close points are studied. These tools allow us to describe the evolution of a curve's local structure through blowing-up sequences and to analyze their behavior through multiplicity and intersection properties. The paper concludes with the presentation of the singularity resolution theorem of plane curves, which shows how any singularity can be eliminated through a finite number of blowing-ups, resulting in a configuration in which the curve's components are smooth and intersect at most transversally.

Abstract
Singularities of plane algebraic curves contain fundamental information about the local structure of curves. The aim of this paper is to present the geometric tools underlying their analysis and subsequent desingularization. After introducing the blowing-up construction of a point on a smooth surface, the main properties of the exceptional divisor, the strict transform of curves, and infinitely close points are studied. These tools allow us to describe the evolution of a curve's local structure through blowing-up sequences and to analyze their behavior through multiplicity and intersection properties. The paper concludes with the presentation of the singularity resolution theorem of plane curves, which shows how any singularity can be eliminated through a finite number of blowing-ups, resulting in a configuration in which the curve's components are smooth and intersect at most transversally.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
