Abstract
The Po Valley, thanks in part to certain European regulations, is restoring some forested areas to its surface. These are formed by the phytosociological association Asparago tenuifolii-Quercetor roboris, which is typical of these environments. Forest management involves carrying out thinning operations distributed over time and executed with different criteria based on the evolutionary stage and structure of the population. These interventions are aimed at regulating the density of the overstory to promote a more efficient use of the resources available to each individual.Increasingly, highly mechanized processing systems are used to carry out felling and timber extraction operations. Their objective is to facilitate the operations, making them faster and therefore less expensive. These machines do not only have positive aspects; most of the time, they have considerable dimensions and an equally remarkable load capacity. All of this translates into an increase in the pressure exerted on the soil, which can cause compaction. When this occurs, the physical properties of the soil are altered, and many of the soil organisms are affected by this phenomenon, responding by limiting their metabolic activity and thereby contributing to the increase of the negative effects recorded at the pedological level. Through this study conducted at a worksite in Vigonza (PD), the aim is to analyze how interventions for creating a road system designed to facilitate timber extraction operations resulting from the planned thinning in the area can influence soil compaction.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
