Active galactic nuclei are incredibly luminous astronomical objects, characterized by a wide variety of peculiar phenomena and characteristics observable both in the radio band, such as the compactness or otherwise of the radio source or the radio power of the source, and in the optical domain, such as the presence in some spectra of emission lines with a large component or the correlation between some spectral characteristics, which define the main sequence of quasars. In this context, OQ 208 fits in: a nearby, partially obscured quasar associated with a compact radio source. A recent study highlighted significant variability in its optical and radio emission, with particular attention to the evolution of the broad Balmer line profiles. This thesis presents the reduction and analysis of an optical spectrum of OQ 208 obtained at the Copernicus telescope in 2025. Attention is paid to the shape of the emission profiles, the decomposition between narrow and wide components, and the comparison with spectra published in the literature, from which there appears to be variability with a time scale of about 48 years for the H alpha line. The aim is to evaluate which dynamic models can be compatible with the observed profiles and their variations over time. Several interpretative scenarios are qualitatively discussed, including the possible presence of a perturbed or binary broad-line region - a favored scenario for the analysis presented in this thesis - or geometric and orientation effects, or obscuration phenomena associated with an accretion disk “warped".

Abstract
Several interpretative scenarios are qualitatively discussed, including the possible presence of a perturbed or binary broad-line region - a favored scenario for the analysis presented in this thesis - or geometric and orientation effects, or obscuration phenomena associated with an accretion disk “warped".| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
