This research examines the role of pets within cohabiting couples without children, with particular attention to how pets are integrated into expectations of parenthood and future family projects. In recent years, the phenomenon of pet parenting has gained increasing social and cultural relevance, reflecting changes in contemporary families and emotional bonds. Pets are no longer considered merely companions, but are increasingly seen as central figures in couples’ daily lives and in the construction of family identity. The study is based on a qualitative methodology involving four semi-structured interviews conducted with cohabiting couples from different age groups. The aim is to explore how the presence of a pet influences daily life, couple relationships, and representations of future family life. The results show that pets occupy an increasingly significant role in intimate relationships and in the everyday lives of contemporary couples, becoming an integral part of family dynamics and of how parenthood is imagined.

Abstract
The results show that pets occupy an increasingly significant role in intimate relationships and in the everyday lives of contemporary couples, becoming an integral part of family dynamics and of how parenthood is imagined.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
