This thesis is based on my personal experience during a seven-month educational internship. I considered it essential for my placement to last for an extended period, as this allowed me to observe the development and changes that took place within the residential communities for adults with disabilities where I had the opportunity to work. I am deeply grateful because, through the establishment of genuine educational relationships, each resident was able to open up and share a part of themselves with me. This experience enriched me not only professionally but, above all, as a person. My decision to explore the topic of music therapy takes place from my experience of supporting the residents and participating in this activity. Through music therapy, every individual, including those communicating non-verbally, had the opportunity to express themselves, socialize, and relax. This thesis aims to analyze and illustrate the contribution that music therapy can make to the educational pathways of people with disabilities, highlighting both the emotional benefits associated with this practice, also drawing on my personal experience, and the theoretical foundations of the discipline. More specifically, this thesis is divided into three chapters: The first chapter examines the main aspects of music therapy, including its definition and its distinguishing characteristics. It reviews the principal theoretical models associated with this discipline in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the importance of applying music therapy to people with disabilities and the benefits they may derive from it. The second chapter focuses on my internship experience at the residential communities "L'Arcobaleno e Il Giardino", managed by the Fondazione Franchin Simon Onlus. It reflects on what this experience taught me both professionally and personally, but also the critical issues I observed. This chapter also explores the topic of residential educational settings, with particular attention to the organizational and regulatory frameworks that regulate these services. Finally, it presents my direct experience with music therapy, comparing the theoretical concepts discussed in the first chapter with practical application, and highlighting the educational value and benefits I observed. The third and final chapter offers a critical reflection on both the educational benefits experienced by the residents, which I was able to observe firsthand, and the role of the educator within the context of music therapy. The thesis concludes with my own educational proposal, which represents a theoretical application of the knowledge and insights learned throughout this experience.
