This thesis analyzes the correlation between childhood maltreatment and neurodivergence. It examines the various types and definitions of maltreatment, the social worker's approach to such cases, and the essential role of the service network in ensuring comprehensive care. The study explores definitions of neurodivergence, the diagnostic process, and various treatments, ultimately examining the interplay between diagnosis and vulnerability—a dynamic known as "double risk." By integrating these two areas, the thesis discusses how stress can trigger distinct neurobiological responses and how neurodivergence may evolve as an individual grows; it also addresses how social services approach these situations by designing interventions based on a bio-psycho-social and trauma-informed framework. Finally, a case study—presented through an autobiographical lens—is analyzed to offer critical reflections aimed at future improvements, touching upon the issue of "invisible" siblings within child protection systems and gender stereotypes regarding parenthood. The work concludes with critical reflections on the challenges identified, leading to proposals for enhancing future social work practice.
