This thesis, entitled Cartographies of the Infra-ordinary. The Representation of Places in the Works of Georges Perec, explores the relationship between space, everyday experience and literary representation in the works of Georges Perec, focusing on the ways in which the French writer transforms ordinary places into objects of observation and narration. The study draws on geocritical approaches and on the theoretical reflections of the spatial turn, considering space not merely as a background to narrative, but as a dynamic dimension shaped by practices, perceptions and processes of meaning-making. After outlining the main theoretical approaches to the representation of space and to the contemporary crisis of place, the thesis examines the transformation of urban spaces, increasingly characterized by standardization, mobility and the erosion of local identity. Within this context, Perec’s work is analysed as a distinctive practice of observing everyday life, capable of bringing attention to what generally remains unnoticed. Through Oulipian constraints, enumerations and detailed descriptions of spaces, Perec constructs an alternative cartography of urban experience based on the observation of the “infra-ordinary”. The analysis of Espèces d’espaces and other works by Perec thus shows how writing can become a means of questioning, inhabiting and re-signifying places. The representation of the ordinary is therefore not merely a descriptive exercise, but a form of resistance to the increasing homogenisation of contemporary space and to the loss of meaning experienced in everyday places.

Abstract
The representation of the ordinary is therefore not merely a descriptive exercise, but a form of resistance to the increasing homogenisation of contemporary space and to the loss of meaning experienced in everyday places.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
