This thesis analyzes the phenomenon of the gender gap through the study of the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2025, one of the leading international tools for measuring gender equality. After presenting the methodology of the index and the four dimensions that compose it – economic participation, education, health, and political empowerment – the thesis examines the global state of gender equality. The research then focuses on the case of Iceland, the country ranking first in the 2025 classification, analyzing the public policies and factors that have contributed to achieving high levels of equality between men and women. The aim of this study is to highlight how reducing gender inequalities represents not only a principle of social justice but also a fundamental element for a country’s economic, political, and institutional development.
