This paper addresses the use of the word in the colonization process, offering an in-depth description and analysis of the stylistic and linguistic elements adopted during the conquest of Mexico. The objective of the research is to trace a linear reconstruction of events, highlighting the centrality of narrative strategies in the representation of the conquest and in the construction of colonial discourse. The investigation focuses on the critical analysis of the texts written by Hernán Cortés, in particular "Cartas de relación", highlighting the mechanisms of omission, rewriting, and cultural translation through which the reality of the Aztec world is reframed to shape the perception of events. The study was conducted through the critical analysis of contemporary documentation and chronicles, integrated with a preliminary overview of the historical, cultural, and social context, as well as the examination of antecedent sources closely related to the facts covered. The analysis and comparison of the texts revealed a systematic mystification and manipulation of information, tailored according to the recipient and the intended communicative purposes. The research demonstrates how the manipulation of signs and mastery of the communicative act preceded and consolidated the military conquest. The phenomenon of constructing reality through the word stands as a cornerstone element that undermines the presumed objectivity of contemporary chronicles, revealing the tight interdependence between language and power.

Abstract
The phenomenon of constructing reality through the word stands as a cornerstone element that undermines the presumed objectivity of contemporary chronicles, revealing the tight interdependence between language and power.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
