This thesis aims to analyze the representation of space in the novel Petersburg by Andrei Bely, a central work of Russian Symbolism, in which the city becomes a protagonist as much as the characters who inhabit it. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first examines external spaces, reconstructing the conception of the city of Petersburg as it emerges in the text, highlighting its incongruities with respect to the real city, and analyzing the description of the waters, the islands, and the main urban monuments. The second chapter focuses on interior spaces, investigating how the characters' dwellings mirror their personalities and fundamental character traits, in a specular relationship between environment and psychology. The third chapter finally addresses the dynamic dimension of space, analyzing how the settings, both exterior and interior, transform during moments of introspection, emotional turmoil, and shifts in the characters' perspective. Through this analysis, the thesis intends to show how, in Petersburg, space is not merely a narrative backdrop but an active and symbolic element, capable of reflecting and amplifying the characters' inner dynamics
