This thesis aims to analyze the canonical penal system, with particular reference to the delicts of sexual abuse and child pornography-related offences committed against minors by members of the Catholic clergy. The first chapter is dedicated to a general overview of canonical penal law, with specific regard to its fundamental principles, the notion of delict, the sanctioning system, and the methods of application and cessation of penalties. The second chapter focuses on the main forms of abuse against minors provided for by the canonical legal system, comparing them with the corresponding framework under Italian criminal law. The third and final chapter is dedicated to the procedural aspects of the delicta graviora, through the analysis of the main forms of canonical criminal proceedings and the differences from the Italian criminal procedural system. The thesis therefore aims to provide a comprehensive reconstruction of the substantive and procedural discipline applicable to the delicts under examination.
