The present study is based on a linguistic and sociolinguistic analysis of the novel Il sogno di una cosa by the Italian poet, writer, film director, painter, and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini, as well as of its German translation published in 1968. Furthermore, particular attention is devoted to Pasolini himself and to his poetics, especially with regard to his relationship with the Friulian language, as expressed in the aforementioned novel. The second chapter provides a concise overview of Pasolini’s reception in Germany. The central focus of the study is addressed in the third chapter, which is primarily dedicated to a Translation Studies analysis in which the Italian original is compared with its German version.
