Recentemente, nel 2006, è stata descritta una nuova specie fungina: Chalara fraxinea. Si ritiene che il deperimento progressivo in atto sulle specie appartenenti al genere Fraxinus possa essere spesso associato alla presenza di C. fraxinea. L'infezione porta spesso ad una patogenesi cronica che può essere letale. In Europa questa malattia infettiva, osservata per la prima volta in Polonia negli anni '90, è attualmente in diffusione da est a ovest. La presenza del parassita in Italia viene per la prima volta descritta nella presente tesi. Si riportano alcuni esempi di recenti studi condotti su questo fenomeno. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Recently in 2006 Chalara fraxinea, a new fungal species, was described. It is assumed that progressive dieback of the species belonging to the Fraxinus genus is often related to the presence of C. fraxinea. The infection in the living tissues often leads to a chronic pathogenesis that can be lethal. This infective disease was first observed in Poland in the nineties and is now spreading from Eastern to Western Europe. The presence of Chalara fraxinea in Italy is described in this thesis for the first time. Recent studies carried out on this phenomenon are also reported in this work.
