In this thesis we analyzed the effects of a retetion basin at Brognoligo-Costalunga (Verona’ s province), on the hydraulic hazard mitigation of the Alpone river. In particular, we analyzed the effect of the retetion basin on the mitigation of a flood due to a 24-hour rain, by using a full-fledged finite element model of the complete shallow water equations, under the assumption of a fixed bed, and a software providing a graphical interface for the visualization of the results. We also analyzed the benefits that the retention basin leads to the adjacent territory to the watercourse, avoiding the recurrence of catastrophic events like that occurred in November 2010.
