We review the basic features of black holes in General Relativity, their thermodynamic behaviour and the paradoxes that emerge when one take this behaviour seriously. We introduce string theory and supergravity and black hole physics within string theory. This enables for a correct count of the microstates responsible for the entropy of the black hole, and suggests a resolution of the black hole issues: the fuzzball proposal. To establish the validity of this proposal, it would be important to provide a precise map between the geometries and the microstates. This map could be constructed using the tools from the AdS/CFT correspondence. In particular one can compare the vacuum expectation values of supersymmetric operators computed in the microstates, with those extracted from the geometry via holographic methods. The thesis discusses these methods, by extending the results already known in the literature to supersymmetric operators of higher dimensions.
