IL VALORE ADATTATIVO DELLA PSICOPATOLOGIA: POSSIBILI SPIEGAZIONI EVOLUZIONISTICHE PER SCHIZOFRENIA E DISTURBO BIPOLARE

In this paper we will discuss the use of the evolutionary approach in the study and understanding of mental illness. Evolutionary psychology, in fact, allows to study diseases, even mental ones, from the point of view of their possible adaptive value in the evolutionary history of human beings. The objective is mainly to provide a paper that can provide a review of the main evolutionary theories on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Thus, an attempt will be made to give birth to a primer on the topic, which is also capable of being a state of the art of evolutionary theories. This will be done by reporting the main and most credited evolutionary hypotheses, selected among those developed in the last decades. Besides that, the usefulness of the present work resides in the fact that this state of the art on evolutionary theories on schizophrenia and bipolarism is done in Italian language.

In questo elaborato si tratterà l’utilizzo dell’approccio evoluzionistico nello studio e comprensione della malattia mentale. La psicologia evoluzionistica, infatti, permette di studiare le malattie, anche quelle mentali, dal punto di vista di un loro possibile valore adattativo nella storia evolutiva dell’essere umano. L’obiettivo è principalmente quello di fornire un documento che possa fornire una rassegna delle principali teorie evoluzionistiche sulla schizofrenia e il disturbo bipolare. Si cercherà, quindi, di dare la luce ad un primer sull’argomento, che sia anche in grado di essere uno stato dell’arte delle teorie evoluzionistiche. Questo sarà fatto riportando le principali e maggiormente accreditate ipotesi evoluzionistiche, selezionate tra quelle sviluppate negli ultimi decenni. Oltre a ciò, l’utilità del presente lavoro risiede nel fatto che tale stato dell'arte sulle teorie evoluzionistiche su schizofrenia e bipolarismo viene fatto in lingua italiana.
