The aim of this paper is to describe a pilot study with adults with autism spectrum disorders that investigated the effectiveness of a digital music instrument conceived, evaluating the possible effectiveness deriving from the introduction of digital devices in music therapy sessions with this clinical population. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter outlines the most important information in terms of diagnosis, symptomatological characteristics and etiological models of autism spectrum disorders. The second chapter describes music therapy and its functions in the clinical setting, as well as the influence that psychological approaches have had on the development of models and methods of the discipline. The third chapter focuses on the research and practice of music therapy within the context of developmental disorders and autism spectrum disorders, mentioning the reasons and the elements of interventions with adults. In the fourth chapter the pilot study is presented, while the fifth chapter describes the comment on the results obtained from the analysis of the data processing, specifying limits and possible future developments deriving from the study described.
