With the term 'binaural interference', we refer to a manyfold group of situations when - in the same subject - the bilateral application of hearing aids has a lower performance, both in terms of speech retention and sound spatialization, when compared to the monaural application. The aim of this thesis is to make a critical review of those studies that link binaural interference to an impairment of the central mechanisms related to the binaural fusion of auditory inputs, with particular attention to the impact of the latter on hearing aids users. From the meta-analysis, information will be obtained to get new insight on the well-known phenomenon of the difficulty for the hearing-impaired to effectively extrapolate salient information in a context with an unfavorable S/N ratio, placing particular emphasis on those results that correlate this difficulty with a compromised binaural fusion. In clarifying the causes of an inadequate spatialization of the sound scenario, their consequences on the assessment of the best hearing aid method of application will therefore be investigated.

Abstract
In clarifying the causes of an inadequate spatialization of the sound scenario, their consequences on the assessment of the best hearing aid method of application will therefore be investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
