Abstract

In this paper, the phenomenon of Open Innovation is treated by studying the differences in the application of such strategy in a large company and in a SME, and analysing the actors involved. Since it is essential for the companies to trade their knowledge with others to generate profit, the permeability of the organisation boundaries of a company plays an important role in the implementation of such strategy. The focus of my studies is the analysis of how a company can rely not only on internal stakeholders, such as management and employees, but also on external figures, like suppliers, retailers and consumers. This phenomenon allows the company to learn as much as possible from the environment in which it operates. In order to better explain this theory, I analysed in details the fashion industry, underlining how companies operate in the sector to exploit Open Innovation systems for the modernisation of their business models and the definition of their brand identity. These goals should be achieved by meeting the sustainable needs of the new generation and by obtaining positive data related to the performance of the company. In this process, stakeholders play and important role. They help in the increase of corporate awareness liked to the green factor, essential for a successful strategy.
