In this thesis a procedure is presented in order to define the geometrical tolerances needed to achieve a predetermined contact stiffness. The ELT telescope is considered as a case study, in which the functional tolerances of the position and velocity encoders require the control of the deformations caused by the contact of non-perfectly flat surfaces. This problem is representative of the more general problem of the correlation between contact stiffness and geometric tolerances.

Abstract
In this thesis a procedure is presented in order to define the geometrical tolerances needed to achieve a predetermined contact stiffness. The ELT telescope is considered as a case study, in which the functional tolerances of the position and velocity encoders require the control of the deformations caused by the contact of non-perfectly flat surfaces. This problem is representative of the more general problem of the correlation between contact stiffness and geometric tolerances.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
