Kazakistan: luci e ombre di una nuova nazione

A historical journey that traces the fundamental stages that have led Kazakhstan to become the country it is today. A journey divided into two parts that begins at the end of the 19th century with Tsarist expansionism in these territories, then moving on in 1936 to the creation of the real state and its direct entry into the Soviet Union as the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. In this first part the strategic role of the country for the USSR and their relations are analysed, always considering the real internal situation of the nation and popular sentiment. At the end of 1991 Kazakhstan became independent following the fall of the Soviet regime, and this is where the second part begins, dealing with the transitional period that the country went through in the 1990s, with the rise of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the controversial leader who was to lead the country for 30 years. Between economic reforms, scandals and trade agreements we will see how this man managed to transform Kazakhstan into the key country of Central Asia and projected it into the future.

Un viaggio storico che ripercorre le tappe fondamentali che hanno portato il Kazakistan a essere il paese che è oggi. Un percorso articolato in due parti che inizia da fine ‘800 con l’espansionismo zarista in questi territori, passando poi nel 1936 alla creazione del vero e proprio stato e sul suo ingresso diretto nell’Unione Sovietica come Repubblica Socialista Sovietica Kazaka. In questa prima parte viene analizzato il ruolo strategico che il paese costituisce per l’URSS e le loro relazioni, considerando sempre la reale situazione interna della nazione e il sentimento popolare. Con la fine del 1991 il Kazakistan diventa indipendente in seguito alla caduta del regime sovietico, inizia qui il secondo percorso che tratta dal momento transitorio attraversato dal paese negli anni ‘90 vedendo l’affermazione della figura di Nursultan Nazarbaev, il controverso leader che resterà alla guida della nazione per 30 anni. Tra riforme economiche, scandali e accordi commerciali vedremo come quest’uomo sia riuscito a trasformare il Kazakistan nel paese chiave dell’Asia centrale e l’abbia proiettato verso il futuro.
