Lead-acid batteries are among the most widely used batteries, still managing to account for a large percentage of the energy storage market, despite the exponential growth of lithium-ion technology. The most widespread use is certainly in the automotive sector, as a starting system or in the traction of small light vehicles, and now also in stationary storage at home by integrating the batteries with the increasingly popular solar panels. They offer a number of advantages, including flexibility, in fact they can be manufactured in different sizes ranging from a few Ah to hundreds of Ah, but the most significant advantage lies in the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the production process, which is now widely known and optimised to ensure not only the absence of periodic maintenance, but also excellent performance in terms of average life. The competitiveness of the price of this technology derives in part from the fact that since the raw material (Pb) is completely recyclable, its availability is almost unlimited and in general over 90% of the materials used can be recovered from a lead-acid battery. Abstract

This paper will describe the design of three cells for the experimental phase of AGM technology, the study and implementation of suitable reference electrodes for data collection, the experimental setup for experimentation on flooded cells and the analysis of water consumption of the latter.

DESIGN AND WATER CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS OF LEAD-ACID BATTERIES WITH FLOODED AND AGM TECHNOLOGY
