Abstract

The continuous evolution of technology brings with it countless benefits in human daily life. Industrial machines to facilitate production processes, home automation, autonomous driving cars and, more importantly, the monitoring over time and space of vital parameters and the main biomarkers, are just simple examples of the Internet of Things. Technology, and its continuous development, is leading us and is giving us the possibility of applying, even on very large demographic scales, the study of human health as well as the means for major preventive actions on the life of the individual being. Currently, the importance of the concept of prevention is strongly emphasized. However, the limited possibilities of access to services, the long waiting times for access to services, the lack of time for humans and the lack of a culture of prevention give evidence that any changes must happen through daily actions: not only with the disclosure of information, not only by trying to raise awareness but by making devices such as wearable which can follow people in their regularity and give them information on their state of health as well as on corrective measures to take. During this script, we will proceed with an analysis of the means and tools we have today and of those ones we will have in the future for the prevention and protection of people and their health. We will underline how sensors can be divided into categories, based on the parameters they measure, and how the interaction between sensors, giving us multi-sensor, strongly contributes to extrapolate important data for the classification of the health status of the person. To conclude, we will discuss about how in the future these sensors, applied to the daily life of the elderly people and not, can help to save lives and increase people's life expectancy thanks to an important preventive role taken by any warning signals which will be provided by the instruments when some vital parameters are altered.
