The phenomenon of social comparison: a systematic review of its implications

The thesis is developed around the fundamental concept of social comparison and aims to put forward both a theoretical definition of the phenomenon and to study its empirical implications. The analysis takes the form of a systematic review of the research on the topic, addressing it by fields of interest in order to understand the consequences that social comparisons can have.

La tesi si sviluppa attorno al concetto fondamentale di confronto sociale, ponendosi come obiettivo quello di farne una definizione teorica e di studiarne le implicazioni pratiche. In particolare l'analisi assume la forma di una revisione sistematica della letteratura che indaga il fenomeno, affrontandola per ambiti in modo tale da comprendere le conseguenze che il confronto sociale può avere.
