The thesis deals with the production of electricity by exploiting nuclear fission technology. Specifically, topics regard the historical evolution of nuclear fission technologies, the various types of fission reactors built so far with their relevant components, types of fuel that can be used, the management of radioactive waste. There will also be a focus on the history of nuclear power in Italy. Subsequently, some statistics relating to supply of energy in the World will be presented, highlighting the contribution of nuclear power. To conclude, there’ll be an overview concerning some of the new technologies under development and their possible future applications.
La tesi tratta la produzione di energia elettrica sfruttando la tecnologia di fissione nucleare. Nello specifico, i temi trattati riguardano l’evoluzione storica delle tecnologie di fissione nucleare, i vari tipi di reattori a fissione costruiti finora con i loro relativi componenti più rilevanti, i tipi di combustibile che possono essere impiegati, la gestione delle scorie radioattive. Inoltre sarà presente un approfondimento sulla storia del nucleare in Italia. Successivamente verranno presentate invece alcune statistiche relative all’approvvigionamento di energia nel mondo, con particolare attenzione al contributo del nucleare. Per concludere invece sarà effettuata una panoramica riguardo alle nuove tecnologie in via di sviluppo e alle loro possibili applicazioni future.
