The aim of this experimental study is to assess an optimum water chemistry to be used in an experimental nuclear fusion reactor cooling circuit, the Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) Facility, set to be built in Frascati, Rome. This reactor considers the use of borated water in the vaccum vessel as a neutronic shield. The high concentrations of boric acid inserted in the water requires the addition of a base to counteract the borated water acidic nature. Experimental tests were conducted by adding lithium hydroxide, LiOH, to the borated water. Simulations were also performed using some codes previously developed for nuclear fission reactors to assess the amount of LiOH to be added in the borated water. A tailor-made pH was therefore achieved. These solutions were used to test the DTT materials compatibility by performing releases tests on metal samples in contact with the solution at the temperature of operation of the DTT VV circuit.

Abstract
These solutions were used to test the DTT materials compatibility by performing releases tests on metal samples in contact with the solution at the temperature of operation of the DTT VV circuit.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
