Cambiamento climatico, infrastrutture di trasporto e mobilità urbana

In order to fight climate change, it is crucial on the one hand to study what major activities contribute to it, and on the other how we can adapt to changes and phenomena that are already part of our reality. This paper aims to examine these relationships by focusing on transportation, one of the historically most polluting sectors. The focus is placed particularly on the infrastructural side of the sector. Initially, a review of the main effects of climate change-related phenomena on transportation infrastructure is offered, and then adaptation measures are mentioned. Thereafter, mitigation measures are examined, proceeding through an analysis that breaks them down by type of transportation. Finally, the importance of policies and incentives is recalled. The last chapter of the paper is devoted to urban mobility of people and goods, which assumes great relevance given the increasing urbanization worldwide, and how this faces the challenge of sustainability. For freight transport, the discussion focuses mainly on the activities of last-mile logisitcs.

Per contrastare il cambiamento climatico è cruciale da un lato studiare quali siano le principali attività che contribuiscono ad alimentarlo, e dall’altro come ci si può adattare a dei mutamenti e fenomeni che sono già parte della nostra realtà. Questo elaborato si pone l’obbiettivo di esaminare queste relazioni focalizzandosi sui trasporti, uno dei settori storicamente più inquinanti. L’attenzione è posta in particolare sul lato infrastrutturale del settore. Viene offerta inizialmente una rassegna dei principali effetti dei fenomeni correlati al cambiamento climatico sulle infrastrutture di trasporto, accennando quindi alle misure di adattamento. Successivamente sono prese in esame le misure di mitigazione, tramite un’analisi che le suddivide per tipologia di trasporto. Viene richiamata infine anche l’importanza delle politiche e degli incentivi. L’ultimo capitolo dell’elaborato è dedicato alla mobilità urbana di persone e merci, che assume grande rilevanza vista la crescente urbanizzazione a livello mondiale, e a come questa si affaccia alla sfida della sostenibilità. Per il trasporto delle merci la trattazione si concentra soprattutto sull’attività di last-mile logisitcs.
