Effetto della stagionalità sulla qualità del seme bovino

La valutazione del materiale seminale in laboratorio è un tipo di analisi che ha come scopo quello di avere sul mercato un seme di qualità, controllato e che garantisca il benessere delle bovine che dovranno essere fecondate; questa valutazione viene effettuata per esaminare l’efficienza dei tori riproduttori ed evitare che l'allevatore sprechi risorse economiche, evitando ritardi nella produzione. I fattori che contribuiscono alla riduzione della qualità seminale possono essere molteplici: fattori legati all’animale di tipo genetico, causati da problemi di salute, fattori manageriali durante la raccolta del seme, il congelamento o lo stoccaggio, con conseguenze dannose sul prodotto finale, reso invendibile; fattori ambientali, quali la stagionalità. Per questo ultimo aspetto, infatti, soprattutto in estate e nel primo mese autunnale, si nota un calo significativo della qualità del seme, in maniera variabile a seconda della razza, dall'età e dalle capacità di adattamento del toro allo stress da caldo. Lo scopo di questo lavoro è la valutazione dell’effetto della stagionalità sulla qualità del seme bovino. In questo studio sono stati considerati sei tori Blu Belga, razza che per le sue caratteristiche fisiche, quali l’ipertrofia muscolare che causa, oltre alle difficoltà motorie, anche problematiche termoregolatorie, risente in maniera particolare delle variazioni di temperatura e umidità ambientale rispetto alle altre razze. I dati relativi alle variabili ambientali e di qualità seminale sono stati raccolti e analizzati in un arco temporale di due anni (2020-2021). The evaluation of seminal material in the laboratory is a type of analysis that aims to have on the market a quality semen, controlled and that guarantees the welfare of the cows that will be fertilized; this evaluation is carried out to examine the efficiency of the breeding bulls and to avoid that the breeder wastes economic resources, avoiding delays in production. The factors that contribute to the reduction of semen quality can be many: genetic factors related to the animal, caused by health problems, managerial factors during semen collection, freezing or storage, with harmful consequences on the final product, made unsaleable; environmental factors, such as seasonality. For this last aspect, in fact, especially in summer and in the first month of autumn, there is a significant drop in the quality of the semen, in a variable way depending on the breed, the age and the ability of the bull to adapt to heat stress. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the effect of seasonality on bovine semen quality. In this study, six Belgian Blue bulls were considered. Due to their physical characteristics, such as muscular hypertrophy, which causes thermoregulatory problems in addition to motor difficulties, this breed is particularly affected by temperature and humidity variations compared to other breeds. Data related to environmental variables and seminal quality were collected and analyzed over a period of two years (2020-2021).
