The paper aims to analyse the book "Discourse on voluntary servitude" written by Étienne de La Boétie, with a main focus on the mechanism that occurs between the tyrant and his servants, together with the ideas of La Boétie regarding domination of man over man, which he considers against-nature. The paper is divided in 4 sections: the first one goes over tyranny and the elements that make it possible, the second one is dedicated to describing how being in a submissive state is unnatural for men, the third one analyses the paradox of voluntary servitude and the fourth and final section is used to draw the conclusions of La Boétie's thoughts.
