A preliminary investigation aimed at evaluating the susceptibility of some PIWI varieties (varieties that show resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew) to grapevine pests was carried out in North-Eastern Italy. For this purpose, sampling was conducted in three locations in the Veneto region (Roncade, Annone Veneto and Castelfranco Veneto) during two growing seasons. Surveys focused on leafhoppers and grape phylloxera in vineyards, on spider mites and phytoseiid mites in the laboratory. Results show a different susceptibility to leafhoppers and phylloxera in a number of varieties. At the same time, significant differences emerged concerning mites, in particular the Phytoseiidae.
