La Media Education e l'Ocean Literacy s’incontrano all'Università. Un percorso interdisciplinare per la produzione di un cortometraggio sulla "marina del cuore"

This research talks about the phases of the project “Place-based education for Ocean Literacy”, in collaboration between Bicocca team part of the research team “PRIN Greening the Visual: an Environmental Atlas of Italian Landscapes” and the University of Padua. The subjects involved have been the students of 4th year of primary formation science, attending university courses of Lorena Rocca’s Fundaments of Teaching Geography and Manlio Piva’s Artistic Education and Media Education. The didactic areas of reference of the project have been two: geography and Media Education. This has developed a dual and collaborative research investigation that saw the following work focus more on the media aspect than on the geographic one, treated instead in another complementary thesis. Nowadays, we know that more than 80% of maritime pollution comes from activities done in the mainland. From the depletion of fish fauna to the change of sea level, the maritime ecosystem is suffering major transformations. United Nations Organization Secretary General António Guterres at the UN Conference on Oceans declared that we are facing what we could call "an ocean of emergency". Therefore, in this alarming scenario, it becomes essential to experiment with ocean literacy courses in favour of a sustainable future. The purpose of the thesis has been to expand the knowledge and skills of future teachers about the marine environment through the production of audio-visual material. The students involved have been asked, starting from the exploration of the multiform landscape of the Venice Lagoon performed on a sailing boat, to produce short films that represent their relationship with marine spaces. Specifically, the thesis investigated whether the creation of short films has brought future teachers closer to Ocean Literacy and has encouraged to include it in the geography curriculum aftermath. The surveys considered the data collected through a questionnaire, direct and participatory observation of the project activities and the analysis of the peer review carried out through the FeedbackFruit platform. Some of the final products made by the students will enrich the visual atlas of the Greenatlas and will be able to be used as educational tools in interdisciplinary paths between geography and Media Education in the different school grades.

Il presente lavoro di ricerca rendiconta le fasi del progetto “Place-based education for Ocean Literacy”, in collaborazione tra il team Bicocca facente parte del gruppo di ricerca “PRIN Greening the Visual: an Environmental Atlas of Italian Landscapes” e l’Università degli Studi di Padova. I soggetti coinvolti sono stati gli studenti e le studentesse del IV anno di Scienze della Formazione Primaria, frequentanti i corsi di Fondamenti e Didattica della Geografia e di Educazione artistica e Educazione Mediale con la professoressa Lorena Rocca e il professor Manlio Piva. Gli ambiti didattici di riferimento del progetto sono stati due: la geografia e la Media Education. Ciò ha dato origine a un’indagine di ricerca duale e collaborativa che ha visto il seguente lavoro concentrarsi più sull’aspetto mediale che su quello geografico, trattato invece in un’altra tesi complementare. Ad oggi sappiamo che più dell'80% dell'inquinamento marittimo proviene da attività svolte sulla terraferma. Dall’impoverimento della fauna ittica al cambiamento del livello del mare, l’ecosistema marittimo sta subendo importanti trasformazioni. Il segretario generale delle Nazioni unite António Guterres alla conferenza Onu sugli Oceani ha dichiarato che stiamo affrontando quello che potremmo chiamare “un’oceano di emergenza”. Pertanto, in questo allarmante scenario, diventa fondamentale sperimentare percorsi di alfabetizzazione all’oceano in favore di un futuro sostenibile. Lo scopo della tesi è stato ampliare le conoscenze e le competenze di future insegnanti in merito all’ambiente marino attraverso la produzione di materiale audiovisivo. Agli studenti e alle studentesse coinvolte è stato chiesto, a partire dall’esplorazione del multiforme paesaggio della Laguna di Venezia svolta in barca a vela, di produrre dei cortometraggi che rappresentino il loro rapporto con gli spazi marini. Nello specifico la tesi ha indagato se la creazione dei cortometraggi ha avvicinato futuri insegnanti all’Ocean Literacy e li ha incoraggiati ad includerla nel curriculo di geografia un indomani. Le indagini hanno considerato i dati raccolti tramite un questionario, l’osservazione diretta e partecipativa alle attività del progetto e l’analisi della valutazione tra pari realizzata tramite la piattaforma FeedbackFruit. Alcuni dei prodotti finali realizzati dagli studenti e dalle studentesse, arricchiranno l’atlante visuale del Greenatlas e potranno essere utilizzati come strumenti didattici in percorsi interdisciplinari tra geografia e Media Education nei diversi ordini di scuola.
