This pilot study aims to develop and evaluate a guided self-help treatment based on Fairburn's cognitive-behavioral model of self-help, and on the cognitive-interpersonal model of Treasure and Schmidt (2006). The main objective of the study is to test the effectiveness of the treatment on the eating disorder symptoms. The secondary outcome of the intervention should be the improvement of symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. 17 participants were recruited through the Regional Centers for Eating Disorders of Padua and Chieti. Participants were supported weekly by psychiatric who underwent three-day training on the motivational interview, on intervention in general and received weekly supervision. Patients were also provided with a manual and recorded video clips. The results indicated a significant decrease in the frequency of bingeing episodes, control over food, and less fear of losing control. Significant improvements were observed in all subscales of the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q). The improvements obtained in the questionnaire that assessed the symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress were not significant.
Questo studio pilota mira a sviluppare e valutare un trattamento di auto-aiuto guidato basato sul modello cognitivo-comportamentale di self-help ideato da Fairburn, e sul modello cognitivo-interpersonale di Treasure e Schmidt (2006). L'obiettivo principale è testare l’efficacia del programma sulla psicopatologia alimentare. L’esito secondario è il miglioramento dei sintomi di depressione, ansia e stress. 17 partecipanti sono stati reclutati tramite i Centri Regionali per Disturbi Alimentari di Padova e Chieti. I partecipanti sono stati supportati settimanalmente da specializzandi in psichiatria; i quali hanno seguito una formazione di tre giorni sul colloquio motivazionale, sull’intervento in generale e ricevuto supervisione a cadenza settimanale. Ai pazienti sono stati forniti anche un manuale e dei videoclip registrati. I risultati indicavano una significativa diminuzione della frequenza degli episodi di abbuffata, del controllo sul cibo e minore paura di perdere il controllo. Miglioramenti significativi sono stati osservati in tutte le sottoscale del questionario per la misurazione della psicopatologia alimentare. Non sono risultati significativi i miglioramenti ottenuti nel questionario che valutava i sintomi di depressione, ansia e stress.
Uno studio pilota per la valutazione di efficacia di un intervento di auto-aiuto guidato per il trattamento di sintomi di binge eating.
