Intraosseous access is a technique used in emergencies, in situations where stabilising a venous access is a difficult manoeuvre and, at the same time, the patient needs immediate care. As explained in the guidelines provided by the European Resuscitation Council it is indicate to first attempt peripheral venous access to administer drugs, but in situations where this is difficult or takes too long, intraosseous access can be seen as a viable alternative since it is a rapid technique with a high success rate. This is because if therapy were to be delayed due to prolonged attempts to establish a vascular access, it could lead to a worsening of the patient's clinical condition and prognosis. The aim of the study is to investigate the perception of this technique in the hospital setting, which is not exempted from the presence of emergency situations in which the use of this technique could be useful and effective. The investigation was carried out by comparing two different samples: the nursing team of the O.U. of Neurology of the Hospital dell'Angelo of Mestre and the nursing team of the O.U. of Neurology A of the University Hospital of Coimbra. This was done to investigate whether the different context affected emergency management and the team's perception of the intraosseous access technique. It was also investigated whether the nurses felt trained and prepared in this field and whether they were inclined to study this technique in more detail for possible future application.
