Background: the influence of obesity on general health is largely known. It is still not clear, however, if obesity has some affect from an oral health point of view in the outbreak and seriousness of periodontal disease in a young population (≤ 30 years old). The aim of this systematic review is to investigate this association. Methods: literature research was carried out through the main databases. The last research was made in December 2021. The quality of the studies was assessed through the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. PRISMA guidelines were followed to write the revision. Results: 10 studies were found eligible for the final analysis. Among these, 2 studies sustained that obese subjects are more likely to develop periodontitis, compared to normal weight subjects. In 4 studies, obese subjects had higher levels of gingival inflammation, but not always at a statistically significant level. The high heterogeneity of the studies and the limited sample did not allow for a meta-analysis. Conclusion: no clear evidence suggesting the association between obesity and periodontal disease in young subjects emerged from this analysis.
L’ultima ricerca è stata effettuata a dicembre 2021.

Abstract
Conclusion: no clear evidence suggesting the association between obesity and periodontal disease in young subjects emerged from this analysis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
