Le pratiche di safe bedsharing e cosleeping a confronto nella prevenzione della SIDS: revisione di letteratura.

SIDS is a sudden and unexpected death of an infant, apparently in sleep, between the first and twelfth month of life. This event remains unexplained even after full post-mortem investigations. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) promotes actions that reduce risk in the first year of life, including SAFE SLEEP. The terms "bed-sharing" and "cosleeping" are often and erroneously used interchangeably. Until 2004 it was argued that sharing the parents' bed ("bed sharing") was a safe practice and that it was not recommended for parents who smoke, in conditions of parental fatigue such as not to feel the urges of the child, taking drugs that may alter the awakening abilities. Among the prevention practices there is co-sleeping, which is the set of all the care practices of parents and children who sleep in the same room, all night or part of it without sharing a bed.

La SIDS è un decesso improvviso e inaspettato di un lattante, apparentemente nel sonno, in un periodo compreso tra il primo e il dodicesimo mese di vita. Questo evento rimane inspiegabile anche dopo indagini post-mortem complete. L’American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) promuove delle azioni che riducono il rischio nel primo anno di vita, tra i quali il SAFE SLEEP. I termini “bed-sharing” e “cosleeping” sono spesso ed erroneamente utilizzati come sinonimi. Fino al 2004 si sosteneva che la condivisione del letto dei genitori (“bed sharing”) fosse una pratica sicura e che non fosse consigliato per genitori fumatori, in condizioni di stanchezza del genitore tali da non sentire le sollecitazioni del bambino, assunzioni di farmaci che possano alterare le capacità di risveglio. Tra le pratiche di prevenzione vi è il co-sleeping, ovvero l’insieme di tutte le pratiche di accudimento dei genitori e i figli che dormono nella stessa stanza, per tutta la notte o parte di essa senza condivisione del letto.
