Green Detroit: Crisi e rinascita ambientale attraverso l'urban gardening

The proposed thesis aims to analyze the phenomenon of urban gardening, as a possibility of urban regeneration for the city of Detroit. The thesis is divided into two parts, the first part, examines the historical context of the city of Detroit, starting from its foundation, until the industrial success, and ending with the decline of the city that forced Detroit to declare bankruptcy in 2013. The second part, will examine the phenomenon of urban gardening and urban farming in Detroit, starting from its historical importance, and then analyzing the favorable conditions that this city offers to the expansion of this phenomenon and the improvements that has brought. At the end of the chapter, it will be compared three different urban farms that differ in the methods of management and organization, but have the same goal: to help the citizens and regenerate the city.

La tesi proposta punta ad analizzare il fenomeno dei urban gardening, come possibilità di rigenerazione urbana per la città di Detroit. La tesi è divisa in due parti, la prima parte, esamina il contesto storico della città di Detroit, iniziando dalla sua fondazione, fino al successo industriale, per concludersi con il declino della città che obbligò Detroit a dichiarare bancarotta nel 2013. La seconda parte, esaminerà il fenomeno dell’urban gardening e urban farming a Detroit, iniziando dall’ importanza storica, e in seguito analizzando le condizioni favorevoli che questa città offre all’espansione di questo fenomeno e i miglioramenti che l’urban gardening ha portato. Alla fine del capitolo verranno messe a confronto tre realtà di urban farms che differiscono nei metodi di gestione e organizzazione, ma che hanno lo stesso obiettivo, ovvero aiutare i cittadini e rigenerare la città.
