Lingua e identità nei Paesi Baschi: il caso dell'euskera

The paper proposes an approach to the Basque language, analysing it from various points of view. The aim of the work is to highlight the role of language in the construction of a community's identity, taking a look at the consequences on it throughout history, as a result of historical-political reasons. Despite the fact that the Basque language has been repressed for a long period of time, the attention and interest in the recovery of the Basque language from the 1960s to the present day will be demonstrated. In the first chapter, the Basque language will be introduced by placing it in its geographical context, briefly analysing it from a structural point of view, and then moving on to discuss the factors that have led to a reduction in its use throughout history. The second chapter will mention some of the articles of the Spanish Constitution that preserve its use and introduce the policies implemented in various spheres of society to ensure the language's continued existence. Finally, the last chapter will look at the sociolinguistic situation of Basque today, in order to establish the different use of Basque according to field, gender and age. Data from the latest survey will then be compared with data from previous years. In this way, it will be possible to affirm or not affirm the functionality of remedial policies towards this language.

L’elaborato propone un avvicinamento alla lingua basca, analizzandola sotto diversi punti di vista. Lo scopo del lavoro è quello di evidenziare il ruolo della lingua nella costruzione d’identità di un popolo, dando uno sguardo alle conseguenze su di essa durante la storia, a seguito di motivi storico-politici. Nonostante la lingua basca sia stata repressa per un lungo periodo, si dimostrerà l’attenzione e l’interesse nel recupero della lingua basca a partire dagli anni 60 fino al giorno d’oggi. Nel primo capitolo si introdurrà la lingua basca collocandola nel suo contesto geografico, analizzandola brevemente dal punto di vista strutturale, per poi passare a parlare dei fattori che hanno determinato una riduzione del suo uso durante la storia. Nel secondo capitolo si menzioneranno alcuni articoli della Costituzione spagnola che tutelano il suo uso e si introdurranno le politiche messe in campo in vari ambiti della società per far sì che la lingua continui a vivere. Nell’ultimo capitolo, infine, si vedrà la situazione sociolinguistica del basco al giorno d’oggi, in modo da stabilire il diverso uso del basco a seconda di ambito, genere e età. Verranno poi comparati i dati dell’ultima indagine con quelli di anni precedenti. In questo modo si potrà affermare o meno il funzionamento delle politiche di recupero nei confronti di questa lingua.
