Emerging adults are the major dating app users. These applications are found in the market since the first half of 2000 and, around them, were conduced a good number of research. What is still lacking in these studies is the correlation between dating app use and the recent pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus. In fact, the present research wants to investigate the variations of dating app usage by young users that may have emerged as a result of the social distancing situation. In addition, we aim to understand if the pandemic has also influenced the boys’ and girls’ perceptions over these online meeting places. Therefore, to answer to both questions, a detailed analysis was made of emerging adults’ usage and perceptions either before the pandemic or after. To make the survey as complete as possible we have decided to focus also on additional variables that might have influenced the usage motivations of emerging adults, such as age, gender, education. For this study have been interviewed 17 young people, of which 8 women and 9 men between 20 and 29 years old, each one heterosexual and resident in Veneto (Italy). The main result of the research show that, for the major part of boys and girls, reasons that push them to install a dating app are related to relational or entertainment goal motivations but, during lockdowns imposed over the pandemic, the majority of them has stopped using these applications, whatever their original purpose was. On perceptive side, instead, this analysis showed a marked improvement of the idea over these platforms.
