Background Androgen excess affects about 10% of young women and is caused, in most cases, by PCOS and NC-CAH, which share the same clinical manifestations, with differences in frequency and severity. Objective The aim of this work is to compare PCOS with NC-CAH in order to highlight common elements and distinguishing features. Materials and Methods Materials: scientific articles published on the PubMed portal Methods: Bibliographic search Results Comparison of epidemiology, aetiology, clinic, diagnosis, treatment, complications and social, sexual and psychological considerations. Conclusions PCOS and NC-CAH present differences in prevalence and pathophysiology. As these disorders have significant clinical and hormonal similarities, measurement of 17-OHP, preferably at baseline as a screening method, should be incorporated into the evaluation of all hyperandrogenic patients.

Abstract
Background Androgen excess affects about 10% of young women and is caused, in most cases, by PCOS and NC-CAH, which share the same clinical manifestations, with differences in frequency and severity. Objective The aim of this work is to compare PCOS with NC-CAH in order to highlight common elements and distinguishing features. Conclusions PCOS and NC-CAH present differences in prevalence and pathophysiology. As these disorders have significant clinical and hormonal similarities, measurement of 17-OHP, preferably at baseline as a screening method, should be incorporated into the evaluation of all hyperandrogenic patients.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
