Many media, which have become part of contemporary general culture, present women, in their historical contexts, as protagonists of social or political life, but also of war events. Can this be true for the early Middle Ages, i.e. the period of maximum expansion of Viking culture? The analysis of the funerary objects is one of the best ways to follow in order to clarify the subject, and yet, it is clear that the presence of weapons in a tomb cannot necessarily establish that these were used by the deceased, because "the dead do not they bury themselves."

Abstract
Many media, which have become part of contemporary general culture, present women, in their historical contexts, as protagonists of social or political life, but also of war events. Can this be true for the early Middle Ages, i.e. the period of maximum expansion of Viking culture? The analysis of the funerary objects is one of the best ways to follow in order to clarify the subject, and yet, it is clear that the presence of weapons in a tomb cannot necessarily establish that these were used by the deceased, because "the dead do not they bury themselves."File | Dimensione | Formato | |
