Rappresentazioni e governo delle città del regnum in età longobarda e carolingia: l'evidenza delle fonti normative e giudiziarie.

The historiography regarding the history of cities in the Italian peninsula, from the transformation of the Roman world to the advent of the Municipalities, is divided into two currents of thought regarding their existence: the catastrophists who deny the presence of the city in that period, and those who support their survival and transformation into different and in their own way peculiar systems in the history of our territory. Having retraced the debate on the issue, it is necessary to approach the sources, in this case the legal and judicial ones, to try to trace a common thread on the existence and governance of cities, and their consequent importance.

La storiografia riguardo la storia delle città nella penisola italiana, dalla trasformazione del mondo romano all'avvento dei Comuni, si divide in due correnti di pensiero riguardo la loro esistenza: i catastrofisti che negano la presenza della città in tal periodo, e coloro che sostengono la loro sopravvivenza e trasformazione in apparati diversi e a loro modo peculiari nella storia del nostro territorio. Ripercorso il dibattito sulla questione è necessario approcciarsi alle fonti, in questo caso quelle normative e giudiziarie, per cercare di rintracciare un filo conduttore sull'esistenza e sul governo delle città, e della conseguente loro importanza.
