Il paesaggio italiano nella fotografia di Luigi Ghirri

Luigi Ghirri (Scandiano 1943 - Roncocesi 1992) is an Italian master of photography of the late twentieth century, he revolutionizes the way to observe and interpret a landscape through the lens of his camera, questioning the reality that surrounds him, associating hidden meanings and symbols, but then revealed through his artistic eye. The exhibition "Viaggio in Italia" of 1984 and its catalogue, become a real manifesto for landscape photography, managing to read and decode a place with an extraordinary sensitivity and affection, not neglecting however the strong intellectual vein of the artist. The role that his photography had in communicating and representing a place is completely unique and against the current for the time, managing to give value to that "minor" Italy that he looked for so much in his shots, bringing out that essence and singularity that until now had been neglected.

Luigi Ghirri (Scandiano 1943 - Roncocesi 1992) è un grande maestro italiano della fotografia del secondo novecento, rivoluziona il modo di osservare e interpretare un paesaggio attraverso l’obiettivo della sua macchina fotografica, mettendo in discussione la realtà che lo circonda, associandogli significati e simboli nascosti, ma rivelati attraverso il suo occhio artistico. La mostra “Viaggio in Italia” del 1984 e il relativo catalogo, diventano un vero e proprio manifesto per la fotografia di paesaggio, riuscendo a leggere e decodificare un luogo con una straordinaria sensibilità e affettività, non trascurando comunque una spiccata vena intellettuale, propria dell’artista. Il ruolo che ha avuto la sua fotografia nel comunicare e rappresentare un luogo è del tutto unico e controcorrente per l’epoca, riuscendo a dare valore a quell’Italia “minore” che lui tanto ricercava nei suoi scatti, tirandone fuori quell’essenza e singolarità che fino ad ora era stata trascurata.
