Pistacia is a genus within the family Anacardiaceae whose importance lies almost exclusively in the P.vera species for the production of edible seeds. P.vera hybrids with species of the same genus are utilized as rootstock, making the taxonomic identification more complex. In this project, the diversity between two Pistacia species, P. vera and P. terebinthus, is evaluated through ITS markers. The results suggest that ITS markers are effective and quick-to-use tools for the identification of species and hybrids that belong to the Pistacia genus starting from samples collected from the natural population.

Abstract

Pistacia is a genus within the family Anacardiaceae whose importance lies almost exclusively in the P.vera species for the production of edible seeds. P.vera hybrids with species of the same genus are utilized as rootstock, making the taxonomic identification more complex. In this project, the diversity between two Pistacia species, P. vera and P. terebinthus, is evaluated through ITS markers. The results suggest that ITS markers are effective and quick-to-use tools for the identification of species and hybrids that belong to the Pistacia genus starting from samples collected from the natural population.

Phylogenetic analysis of Pistacia species through ITS markers
