Traducir el antimachismo. Propuesta de traducción al italiano de tío, CÁLLATE. Manual de autodefensa verbal para contestar en situaciones machistas de Anna Pacheco

This dissertation originates from the desire to explore the themes of anti-sexism and feminism within juvenile and young adult literature. The following thesis has been inspired by the reading of tío, CÁLLATE. Manual de autodefensa verbal para contestar en situaciones machistas written by Anna Pacheco, illustrated by Bàrbara Alca and published in 2019 by the Planeta publishing house. The text is defined as “a manual for young people in struggle” and is structured in 25 chapters that are developed throughout 139 pages that ironically propose tools to deal with sexist people and situations and to empower its young readership. tío, CÁLLATE is a project that shows sensitivity and creativity both linguistically and graphically because it creates a perfect balance between informal register, colloquial language, and attractive illustrations capable of intriguing any reader. This work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is devoted to juvenile and young adult literature, the genre in which the translated work is intended to be placed. The chapter begins by discussing this type of literature, the difficulty of defining it and finding its specific features; it then proceeds by identifying its particularities and briefly introduces the challenges posed by its translation. The second chapter provides a detailed analysis of the source text and focuses on aspects such as the paratext, the linguistic and extra-linguistic features. The third chapter, on the other hand, proposes the complete translation of the work, which in Italian takes the title of amico, STAI ZITTO! Manuale di autodifesa verbale per rispondere al maschilismo. Finally, the fourth and last chapter of the work provides a commentary and analysis of the Italian translation, presenting the methodological approach adopted displaying some of the options chosen to solve the main translation challenges faced through concrete examples taken from the source and target texts. The work is undoubtedly the result of a strong interest in juvenile literature and of a strong commitment to the claims of both anti-sexism and feminism on the part of the author of this thesis. It is also acknowledged that the exchange period spent abroad only increased an already great enthusiasm for the following topics and was crucial for the discovery of the translated work.

El presente trabajo tiene su origen en el deseo de explorar los temas del antimachismo y del feminismo al interior de la literatura juvenil y para jóvenes adultos. La siguiente tesis ha sido inspirada por la lectura de tío, CÁLLATE. Manual de autodefensa verbal para contestar en situaciones machistas, escrito por Anna Pacheco, ilustrado por Bàrbara Alca y publicado en 2019 por la editorial Planeta. El texto se define como un “manual feminista para jóvenes en lucha” y se estructura en 25 capítulos que se desarrollan a lo largo de 139 páginas que proponen de manera irónica herramientas para contestar a personas y situaciones machistas y empoderar a sus jóvenes lectoras. tío, CÁLLATE es un proyecto que demuestra sensibilidad y creatividad tanto lingüísticas como gráficas porque crea un equilibrio perfecto entre registro informal, lenguaje coloquial e ilustraciones atractivas capaces de intrigar a cualquier lector. El presente trabajo se articula en cuatro capítulos. El primer capítulo está dedicado a la literatura juvenil y para jóvenes adultos, género en el que se intenta colocar la obra traducida. El capítulo se abre razonando sobre este tipo de literatura, la dificultad de su definición y de encontrar sus rasgos específicos; luego, continúa con la individuación de sus particularidades e introduce brevemente los retos puestos por su traducción. El segundo capítulo proporciona un análisis detallado del texto de partida y se centra en aspectos como el paratexto, los rasgos lingüísticos y extralingüísticos. En el tercer capítulo, en cambio, se propone la traducción completa de la obra, que en italiano toma el título de amico, STAI ZITTO! Manuale di autodifesa verbale per rispondere al maschilismo. Finalmente, el cuarto y último capítulo del trabajo proporciona un comentario y análisis de la traducción al italiano, donde se presenta el enfoque metodológico adoptado y se presentan algunas de las opciones elegidas para resolver los principales retos de traducción a los que se ha enfrentado a través de ejemplos concretos tomados de los textos de partida y de llegada. El trabajo es sin duda alguna el resultado de un fuerte interés hacia la literatura juvenil y de un grande compromiso con las reivindicaciones tanto del antimachismo como del feminismo por parte de la autora de esta tesis. Asimismo, se reconoce que el periodo de intercambio transcurrido en el extranjero no hizo más que aumentar un ya gran entusiasmo por el siguiente tema y fue crucial para el descubrimiento de la obra traducida.
