This paper aims to highlight various aspects of dendritic cells. In particular, we will address how different populations of this immune system family play a fundamental role in innate immunity, interacting with T lymphocytes. We will discuss how these cells represent the sentinels of the immune system. During the review we will explore different characteristics and functions of dendritic cells using as a starting point fundamental scientific articles for current knowledge in this field.
