In 2023 physical inactivity and sedentary lifestyle have spread like a silent pandemic across the globe. This way of living has been related to many negative health outcomes such as higher risk of NCDs like type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, higher incidence of different types of cancer, depression, higher cardiovascular diseases and more. As a student in Motor science I think it’s my duty to try to understand where the problem has been registered the most and which are the causes. Once these points have been assessed it should be said if there may be a chance to act against this kind of unhealthy lifestyle. Starting with the definition of what being physically active means and what a sedentary lifestyle is, going through the statistics about the increase of NCDs caused by this kind of lifestyle, I'll try to report a sort of global map that has been depicted, about levels of physical activity and BMI. Different areas have been created according to the geographical location (country, continent region ecc.) or the socioeconomic class ( World Bank data ). Percentages of the population male and female will be presented as well as a division concerning the age of the subjects. Finally an esteem about the costs of physical inactivity on the Sanitary system we’ll be presented. At the end I’ll talk about my point of view and some solutions that we may adopt in the near future.
