For transgender children, the non-recognition of their gender identity by the society can cause profound issues, influencing their process of growth and self-determination. From the earliest years, within their family sphere first, and throughout their school journey after, transgender peers are usually subjected to discrimination and isolation which most of the time lead to psychological distress and fear of non-acceptance. This study wants to show the necessity to promote an inclusive model of school in which transgender students can freely express their true selves without fearing harassment and bias due to their gender identity. A critical analysis of the Italian school system and of the measures adopted at a national and regional level to provide a safe environment for transgender students will be attempted in a comparative perspective, in accordance with the general European guidelines. Finally, the focus will move to a qualitative study, in which a group of secondary school students and professors from Cagliari will give a general analysis of the Italian education framework and of the Alias Career procedure’s adoption at a local level.

Abstract
Finally, the focus will move to a qualitative study, in which a group of secondary school students and professors from Cagliari will give a general analysis of the Italian education framework and of the Alias Career procedure’s adoption at a local level.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
