Pain is one of the most common, disabling and feared symptoms experienced by patients diagnosed with cancer. Considering the different treatments and interventions developed to reduce cancer-related pain, it is necessary to highlight that, although pharmacological/medical treatment is very effective, adverse side effects such as constipation, dizziness or illness are very common and result in a lack of adherence to treatment. These elements have directed patients and caregivers to seek alternative approaches to pain management. So, in addition to pharmacological treatment options, non-pharmacological options and complementary treatments are being developed. These measures include the use of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) therapies such as: therapeutic touch, acupuncture, Reike, music therapy, herbal medicine, aromatherapy, mind-body therapies and relaxation and meditation practices. The aim of the thesis is to understand which are currently the non-pharmacological treatments that can be used for the effective management of pain in cancer patients, including in particular CAM therapies, and to deepen the role that the nurse has in the implementation of these methods.

Abstract
Pain is one of the most common, disabling and feared symptoms experienced by patients diagnosed with cancer. Considering the different treatments and interventions developed to reduce cancer-related pain, it is necessary to highlight that, although pharmacological/medical treatment is very effective, adverse side effects such as constipation, dizziness or illness are very common and result in a lack of adherence to treatment. These elements have directed patients and caregivers to seek alternative approaches to pain management. The aim of the thesis is to understand which are currently the non-pharmacological treatments that can be used for the effective management of pain in cancer patients, including in particular CAM therapies, and to deepen the role that the nurse has in the implementation of these methods.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
